Here’s a taster of the fantastsic acrostic poems being produced by our class…take it away Joel…
Naughty Wild Beasts
We hide in leaves
In the jungle we freely roam
Leaves of the jungle fall in the Autum
Digging pits to play in
Then swimming in the sea
Hanging on trees whilst doing a rumpus
In our jungle home all is noisy
Naughty spiders come to our home
Gnashing our teeth at strangers

Not the easiest type of poem to get your head around but our class have been trying their hand at some acrostic poems based on the story Where The Wild Things Are. We’re entering them into a national acrostic poem competition and hope they’ll make it through to the final choosing. The winners get to see their poems in print in an anthology, they also receive a certificate of merit, some vouchers and a copy of the book for the school. All those who enter get a special bookmark. So far only a few have completed it but those plus the works in progress are absolute corkers! Well done!
We’ve been looking at stories with a familiar setting during our literacy lessons, in particular Maurice Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are. The class have all produced the most amazing stories based upon this tale. They had to choose what the main character Max was going to do that was naughty, how his parents would punish him and what the wild things were going to do with him when he arrived on his island. If you get the time pop into the classroom and read their wonderful stories! They are just as enjoyable as the original.
